Eddie Hearn says he has been given his marching orders by Jaron 'The Boots' Ennis to arrange unification fights against the other belt holders at 147. Hearn's instructions from undefeated IBF welterweight champion Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) for 2025 Mr. This is not looking good, however, because the champions want big money.
Hearn says Teofimo Lopez or a move to 154 for a fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr. it is possible if a unifying fight for Ennis cannot be made. We'll see if any of these things happen for Ennis in the new year.
He's going to need serious money from Hearn to get one of the welterweight champions to fight Ennis.
Many of them are probably waiting and hoping that Turki Alalahikh will offer them a fight on his cards for the Riyadh season. They would happily fight for millions, making an easy defense against a soft opponent, rather than lose their titles to Boots for a little money.
“The strict instructions from (Ennis) are, 'I want to unify, and if I can't unify, I'll either go to 154 and fight (Vergil) Ortiz, or I could fight Teofimo Lopez.'” I like the fight with Lopez, but all he wants to do is unify,” Eddie Hearn told Fight Hub TV for Jayron Boots' Ennis.
Boots may have to decide to move up or stay at 147 to face Teofimo soon because it doesn't look promising for his promoter Hearn to arrange the unification fights he craves. Turki could help Ennis' situation and we'll see if that happens next year.
Ennis' lackluster performance against Karen Chouhadjian on November 9 was another reason his popularity did not grow. Unlike other fighters like Gervonta Davis, Boots can't fight anyone and expects fans to want to pay to see him.
He needs the big fights that have so far eluded him. He would have helped himself if he had accepted the offer to move up to 154 to challenge Virgil Ortiz Jr. for his belt. Ennis is still fixated on capturing the 147 lb belts.
He wants to follow in the footsteps of Terence Crawford, but it will take him years to do so. Even then, it didn't happen until the mid-1930s.
