Curmel Moton returns on the Benavidez-Morrell PPV Undercard on February 1st

Lightweight prospect Curmel Moton will reportedly fight on the undercard of David Benavidez vs. David Morrell on Feb. 1 in 40 days on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Benavidez-Morrell Undercard

The 18-year-old undefeated Moton's opponent and the rest of the card have yet to be announced. It probably won't be a notable name for Moton as he is still a teenager and has been picked VERY carefully by his promoter.

It will be interesting to see what division the 5'4″ Moton (6-0, 5 KOs) will be fighting in for this contest. He weighed in at 139 3/4 lbs for his last fight against Hilario Martinez Moreno on October 12th in Philadelphia. The fact that Moton already has weight issues at 18 suggests that he will soon reach welterweight and be fodder for the monsters in this division.

Although Moton destroyed Moreno in the first round, coming in overweight, near the 140-lb limit, is a red flag that he may be forced to move up to light welterweight soon. At 5'4″, Moton is undersized for this division and will have trouble against taller fighters. It's built like a square-shaped fire hydrant and you can tell by looking at it that it's going to be in trouble if it moves to 140 or higher.

Building a record

Moton is one of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s protégés and is expected to take him slowly, as he did with Jervonta “The Tank” Davis, feeding him bland foods to build a record to create a money maker.

If Moton follows the same script as Tank, he may never fight 50-50 until the end of his career when he's 30 years old. Tank hasn't been in 50-50 yet, but has been in the pro game for 11 years. So what does that tell you about how Moton will be recruited? One would think that Moton wouldn't be drawn as a Tank, but it sure will be.
