Floyd Scofield Sr. says his son, Floyd Jr., will not lose against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on February 22nd in their fight in Riyadh. He says fans are tripping over themselves if they believe Scofield Jr. (18-0, 12 KOs). it comes just for that.
Boxing fans believe that Floyd Jr. and his father are only talking about this fight for money. They don't think they can win and will be dominated by Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) on DAZN PPV.
The way they pushed for this fight and ignored promoter Oscar De La Hoya who said Floyd Jr. needs more experience, makes it seem like it's all about the money. If Scofield Jr. had at least one quality win on his resume, fans would believe he really wanted to win.
“We're not going there to lose. You're all eavesdropping. We have been against the odds. I tell Oscar (De La Hoya) to fight, and we're going to defy the odds,” Floyd Scofield Sr. said on social mediatalking about his son's fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on February 22.
“We are used to fighting with our backs against the wall because we have something to fight for. We are breaking generational curses. We are enjoying ourselves. We go out to knock. I hope you all tune in for the fight.
“Thanks to Shakur for the opportunity. We will continue to be humble because it is time to grow up in our lives. I want to be humble and spread love, but at no point will we lose a battle mentally against us. Come on now, you all have to be real about it,” said Scofield Sr.
It speaks volumes for Shakur that he chose the 22-year-old Scofield Jr. as his opponent instead of choosing far more qualified contenders like Andy Cruz, Edwin De Los Santos, Raymond Muratala, Jose “Rayo” Velasquez or Isaac Pitbull Cruz. Stevenson doesn't want to lose before he gets the fight with Gervonta 'Tank' Davis. Drafting Floyd Jr. is Shakur's way of making sure he doesn't get beat.
“You already know who I am. You can all watch online. I will be a humbler version of myself and a quieter version. The main thing is that we will go out to win. We know we're the underdogs and we like that,” Scofield said.
Floyd Sr. needs to keep talking because he's the only one really promoting this fight. Shakur has done nothing of his own to blow the match, and Scofield Jr. has been silent as well. He is not a talker.
“So please don't waste all your money betting on Shakur. Don't be mad at me. Don't make up crap because you lost your family money betting on Shakur. We have to prove what we say and we're going to rock,” said Schofield r.
“The WBC title is on the line and it's new. I'm telling you all. Keep sleeping. You're all going to have a nightmare. Go to sleep, Shakur,” Floyd Sr. said.
Schofield's only chance to win is by knocking out Shakur because he won't win by decision. He might not even win rounds for that matter. The way Floyd Jr. fights Rene Tellez Giron in his last fight on Nov. 2, he doesn't belong in the same ring as Stevenson.
