Commentator Steve Bunce believes the reason Tyson Fury ran out of the ring immediately after the results of his loss to unified heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk last Saturday night was because Daniel Dubois came to the ring.
Bunce believes that when Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) saw IBF heavyweight champion Dubois enter the ring to call out Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), he wasn't going to stand and watch. That would put Fury in an awkward position and make him look bad.
It is unclear who decided to allow DuBois to enter the ring. Whoever it was, they obviously didn't think about what the proud former WBC champion Fury would look like.
The higher-up who made the call to let DuBois into the ring may have missed how it would put Napoleonic fury in a humiliating position, ignored like a curmudgeon. By this move, the emperor was reduced to a minor figure.
This shouldn't have happened because there were other ways to set up a fight between Usyk and DuBois without Daniel entering the ring to call it out while Fury was still present.
The whole thing looked like a circus of shame. Dubois didn't seem comfortable calling out Usyk and was told to do so. He seemed to know it wasn't right and looked timid.
“DuBois was in the ring, obviously trying to fight, but it was a little disrespectful. Above all, Tyson Fury. Second to Alexander Usyk and third to Joseph Parker, who he will fight in February,” Carl Frampton told TNT sports boxingtalking about the circus atmosphere immediately after Alexander Usyk's rematch against Tyson Fury, where Daniel Dubois was allowed to enter the ring.
“I didn't quite like that. I understand why he does it, but it wasn't my cup of tea,” Frampton said.
“I'm sure that's why Fury left,” said commentator Steve Bunce, giving his opinion on why he thinks Tyson Fury ran out of the ring immediately after the fight. “You're in the ring, your Tyson Fury. You have been the king of the world for a long time. You're in the ring. The guy who just beat you (Usyk) really by a few points is there.
“You're standing in the ring. You want nothing more than to give an interview, and all of a sudden you see DuBois come in, come stage left and go straight into battle. If we can find another camera angle, I bet Tyson Fury will leave at some point during the first thing. He stands in the ring. That's the way it works,” Bunce said.
“I know it's 2-0 but it was so tight and so contested. A trilogy is on the table. I think they have a third fight,” Bunce said of wanting the next trilogy between Fury and Usyk. “It's still a huge fight before AJ. Do a third battle (with Alexander). He will not be knocked out. The AJ fight is still there. “I think Fury is right when he says, 'The AJ fight is going to happen, no matter when it happens,'” Bunce said.
Fury-Usyk weren't controversial fights unless you're a Fury fan. People didn't see any of these matches as controversial. The only questionable thing about the former was the referee giving Fury an eight in the ninth round when he was badly hurt.
There is almost no chance of a trilogy match between Usyk and Fury happening because it is too risky for Tyson. He and his promoters will not want to risk him being beaten a third time by Usyk and derailing a lucrative fight with Anthony Joshua. Also, Turki Alalshikh said after the fight that he wants to make the next clash between Joshua and Fury. He said nothing about the creation of the trilogy.
