Zhilei Zhang says a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “doesn't mean much” at this point in their careers. It's like, who cares? These guys are just fighting for money in a meaningless fight. If Turki Al-Sheikh wanted to be tough, he would have given Fury and Joshua a run for their money by going through the fire first and both facing Martin Bakole.
Gian notes that the two British heavyweights talked about fighting years ago when they both had world titles, but now that they don't, they still do. He sees Joshua-Fury as a fight that will only prove who is ONE of the best heavyweights in the UK, not the best.
For Joshua vs Fury fights to prove who is the best British heavyweight boxer, they need to defeat Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley.
It is doubtful that either of them can defeat these three young lions. Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) has already failed in his fight against Dubois, being knocked out in the fifth round on September 21 in front of a crowd of 90,000 fans at London's Wembley Stadium. Not surprisingly, Fury has no desire to mix it up with DuBois. He knows his limitations.
The whole purpose behind Fury's fight with Joshua is for money. That's it – just the dough. Neither of them need the extra money, but they won't turn it down.
“Usyk is absolutely undisputed and I think he gave a much better performance than in the first fight. I had it one sided. I think he is the king of the heavyweight division,” said Zhilei Zhang to Secondsouttalking about Alexander Usyk's win over Tyson Fury last week.
“I don't think this fight means much in terms of belts and championships because this fight has been talked about for years,” Gian said of the Fury-Anthony Joshua fight. “When they both had belts, it was talked about. Now none of them have belts and they're still talking about it.
“I think it's a good way to see who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, but other than that, I don't see any point in this fight other than bragging rights,” Zhang said.
It's not that Fury and Joshua are out of the running at this point in their careers. They were just never as good as their fans thought they were. None of them have beaten solid fighters like Martin Bakole or Daniel Dubois in their careers.
AJ and Gypsy King took advantage of the weak opposition that was around and were carefully selected by their promoters.
It would be better if Fury and Joshua beat someone first before meeting in their 2025 Battle of Britain match, but they probably won't bother. Their confidence levels must be at an all-time low, and they won't want to risk losing to anyone else. Joshua already had a whole package of fights to recover from and it didn't help. Fury hasn't beaten a talented fighter in years.
