Tim Tzu Reflects on 2024 Losses and Aims for Greatness in 2025

Tim Tzu posted on Instagram today, telling his 283,000 followers that 2025 is the year We All Get Great. Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) admits that 2024 she hasn't been great for him, losing her title and getting two in a row.

First, he was defeated by Sebastian Fundora in a 12-round decision on March 30. Then, on October 19, in Orlando, Florida, he was knocked out in the third round in an unsuccessful world title challenge against the undefeated IBF 154 lb champion Bahram Murtazaliev.

Tszyu's loss to Murtazaliev was brutal and signaled that he needed to rebuild his career by fighting local opposition in his native Australia.

Back to basics

It would be foolish for Tim to continue fighting top-five fighters at 154 because a third loss destroys him beyond the point of return. It would be tough mentally, but the fans will completely give up on Tszyu if he loses his next contest.

In hindsight, it was a mistake for Tszyu to challenge Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) in his first rematch since losing to Fundora. He should have taken a softer opponent, not this guy who is one of the hardest hitters in the division.

Murtazaliev's strength and offensive skills would potentially be too much for Terence Crawford, Fundora and Israil Madrimov. Tszyu should have known better than to trade hard blows with this guy.

“2024 is a year of difficulties. I considered myself a returning fighter, I didn't care who was in front of me, I was ready to face anyone. Things don't always go according to plan… but that's the best thing about boxing. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Thank you all for your support. Sorry to disappoint so much… I like to hit with the best. And that is exactly what I will continue to do. And that's a hit with anyone. Hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year.
2025 is the year we all become GREAT. In whatever we do. Pursue greatness and never stop believing!! See you very soon,” Tim Tsiu said Instagram.
