Keyshawn Davis said on social media today that he will be “incredibly strong” on February 14, when he will fight next. Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) is expected to challenge Dennis Berinchik next for his WBO lightweight title at the Hula Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Davis isn't saying how he'll get stronger because he's not known as a puncher. He's more of a boxer and the guys he's knocked out have mostly been middleweight fighters. What is Keyshawn like? Berinchyk has too much talent to be beaten by Davis, so it's dumb for him to focus on that angle to win this fight. Berinchyk has defeated many strong fighters during his years in the amateur ranks.
Keyshawn chose not to face his friend, WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, for his belt because he did not want to fight him. He believes he will beat Berinchik (19-0, 9 KOs) to claim his WBO belt and then use the title to fight Jervonta Davis and Vasyl Lomachenko. It sounds like a the unfulfilled dream.
The things that Keyshawn comes up with sound like some wacky dream that has no chance of happening in his career and is completely unattainable. He doesn't even try to position himself through the logical steps to get the Tank or Loma fight by beating Andy Cruz or Edwin De Los Santos. He thinks that by beating Berinchik, these popular stars will want to fight him. Battles will just come to him like gravity, forcing them into his lap without taking any chances.
If Keyshawn gets his hands on the WBO belt, he will defend it against any little-known challenger Top Rank can dig up for him, but it won't be Tank or Loma. This is not happening.
These guys won't fight Davis, but not because they're afraid of him. Both are heading into retirement and will focus on popular fighters that casual boxing fans have heard of. Keyshon is completely unknown to casuals.
The top rank was quickly followed by 2020 Olympic silver medalist Davis, who moved him into title contention without having to fight his way there, fighting all the top contenders in the lightweight division, such as Andy Cruz or Edwin De Los Santos. It is called “Back door method which promoters use for fighters they don't want to take a chance on.
If they believed in Keyshawn, they would have tested him against Cruz and De Los Santos. They obviously know what can happen to Davis if he fights either of these two talents and it won't be good for him. It would be a repeat of Keeshon's victory at the 2020 Olympics.
Next time I'm in that ring, I'm going to be incredibly strong.💪🏾 #February 14th⭐️
