Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al-Shiekh today and said there is a “chance” a fight between him and Terence Crawford could happen. He says he's always looking to make “the best deals.”
Turki hopes to arrange a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 because it is one of the biggest fights that could take place in North America this year. It remains to be seen if he will be able to make this fight.
Canelo seeks 'best deals'
Crawford, 37, has yet to say what he will do if he fails to fight Canelo. We know Terence's age and fighting at 154 against younger, stronger and bigger fighters will ultimately cost him. He almost lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 last year.
“There's always a chance. We will see, but here there is always a chance to make the best deals and there is always a chance,” Canelo Alvarez told the Ring magazine when asked if another fight between him and Terence Crawford is possible.
“I think it will be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So I think they both have a chance to win,” Canelo said of the Feb. 22 rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world division champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is looking to challenge Canelo for his unified super middleweight titles this year. He believes he has the talent to overcome his size disadvantage. Crawford believes he has enough size and skill to beat Canelo.
The Mexican star has shown signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. These are fighters that Canelo probably would have knocked out in 2021 or sooner, but was forced into a 12-round decision to beat them.
