Jervonta Davis showed off his blinding hand speed today as he worked out with his trainer Barry Hunter on the gloves in preparation for the defense of his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on March 1st at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Davis looks great with gloves on, but is overmatched because his opponent, the super lightweight Roach, lacks power and is outmatched in this fight. It would be nice if Tank trained like a dog and fought someone with real talent. Then you become interested in watching him hit the gloves, but not when it's just another cherry pick like all the others during Davis' carefully managed 12-year pro career.
Tank Davis' last seven opponents
– Frank Martin
– Ryan Garcia
– Hector Garcia
– Rolando “Rolly” Romero
– Isaac Cruz
– Mario Barrios
– Leo Santa Cruz
That's a mediocre group right there and none of them are proper lightweight fighters, not one. So, it's great that Tank Davis excels at hitting gloves, but it's not worth it when you're facing inconsequential opposition on a $75 PPV. These types of battles should be held for free because these are matches meant to be mismatched.
Tank's form closely resembled that of Floyd Mayweather Jr., his former promoter, in his training with gloves. But the two couldn't be further apart in fighting style. Fortunately, Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is a lot more fun to watch than Floyd Jr.
Still, Tank looks a LOT like Mayweather with his cherry picking in addition to his glove training. Floyd was the best at picking them off and avoiding the dangerous predators during his career. Now Tank is following his safety first plan.
Fans want to see Tank knock out Roach (25-1-1, 15 KOs) and then start a fight with the opposition that has a chance to beat him. Davis or his management always picked fighters where he was a huge favorite.
They want to see the tank fight one of these sharks:
– Shakur Stevenson
– Keyshawn Davis
– Andy Cruz
– Edwin De Los Santos
– Vasyl Lomachenko
– William Zepeda
– Bahram Murtazaliyev
– Sebastian Fundora
– Sergey Bokhachuk
– Israel Madrimov
