Shakur Stevenson sent a message today letting “The Face of Boxing” Jervonta “Tank” Davis know he won't be playing A-side games and knows he is B-side in negotiations with him. Stevenson (22-0, 10 KO) says he just wants to fight.
It's a strategic move by WBC lightweight champion Shakur. He tells the media that he does not want to receive “50-50” deal and he knows he is the B-side. Shakur tries to set a trap Tank Davis by making him look weak in the eyes of fans and the media.
Stevenson is trying to get the fans and the media to help put pressure on Jervonta to embarrass him and fight. It's a clever ploy, but it shows Shakur's desperation to get a reunion and, more importantly, a payday.
In the same interview, Stevenson had this to say about Tank: “That's the battle they will pay me a lot.” He was asked if he would be interested in fighting his friend Keyshawn Davis, but said he focused on Tank Davis because he would pay him “a lot.”
That is why Shakur pursued Gervonta day and night for battle. He wants the payday and he won't see the same money fighting someone else at lightweight. What's more, he can be defeated if he goes up against someone with power that can reach his chin. All this talk from Shakur about wanting to fight Tank Davis to prove who's the best when the reality is he just sees him as someone to give him a big payday.
That's why he's in such a hurry pursued Jervonta non-stop battle from 2023 He wants the money and isn't willing to earn it by fighting Edwin De Los Santos in a rematch or facing his friend Keyshawn Davis or Andy Cruz. Instead of winning the battle with Tank Davis, Shakur used 24/7 method to call him at every interview to push him.
“I'm not going to act like I'm an A-side or that I deserve 50-50. Let's negotiate. Let's see where it goes from here,” Shakur Stevenson told YouTube's Sean Porter siteletting Jervonta Davis know he won't try to get the upper hand in fight negotiations. “I know I'm the B-side, but let's fight,” Stevenson said of Tank Davis.
