Jannik Sinner, the defending Australian Open champion, destroyed local hope Alex De Minaur in just 108 minutes.
Defending champion Yannick Sinner dashed the hosts' hopes by beating Alex de Minaur in straight sets to win an Australian Open semi-final against Ben Shelton.
The Italian world number one showed no signs of the ailment that prevented him in his final match from an emphatic 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory over the eighth seed on Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday.
He will meet tough American Shelton for a place in Sunday's final against 10-time champion Novak Djokovic or second seed Alexander Zverev.
Shelton, seeded under 21, fought off another Italian, unseeded Lorenzo Sonnego, 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) to make the Melbourne Park last four for the first time.
The writing was on the wall for De Minaur, with Sinner winning all nine of his previous meetings – the Italian had also won all 20 of his last matches against the Aussies.
De Minaur was given a glimmer of hope after Sinner battled illness in his last-16 clash, where he admitted he was “not there health-wise” and was “a bit dizzy at times” in the hot weather.
But the Italian showed no evidence of the problems on the much cooler quarter-final day, moving freely and showing no discomfort.
In front of a patriotic home crowd, he took a 3-1 lead after a grueling 24-hit baseline rally.
The nimble Gresnik's big ball-striking proved difficult for the Aussie to counter and he struggled to create chances, managing just four winners in the first set.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Sinner managing De Minaur, knocking him around at will and promptly breaking to take control.
He was on a mission and a forehand winner earned him a second break en route to the second set in 40 minutes, with the Australian shaking his head wondering what to do.
De Minaur tried everything but had no answers, breaking twice in the third set after a string of errors as Sinner went 3-0 clear.
Sinner is bidding to defend a Grand Slam title for the first time after defeating Daniil Medvedev in last year's final, and is also aiming to become the first Italian to win three Grand Slam crowns.
He also won the US Open last year.
