The Italian naval ship lands 49 people in Albania in a third transfer in a controversial deal in 2023 between Rome and Tirana.
The Italian Navy has delivered 49 people to an Albanian port, while Rome resumed the controversial transfer of migrants to the Balkan nation.
The Italian authorities said the ship was moored at the port of Shengin on Tuesday morning and descended from the group. This is Rome's third attempt to process asylum requests in Albania after the Italian judges ruled against a pair of shipments at the end of last year and ordered those who moved to be returned.
The right Italian government struck a argument Of the transfers with Albania in November 2023 and built two foster centers. It was the first deal reached by the European Union to redirect migrants to a state -of -the -art claim.
The 49 people should be checked at the port. They will then be taken to the Gjader accommodation center, about 22 kilometers (14 miles) to the east.
Previous attempts to transfer the processing of migrants to Albania followed failures in October and November. The Italian judges have refused to approve the detention of two small groups in Albanian centers, ordering that the countries of origin of the migrant are not safe enough to face the possibility of being sent back from the centers.
The cases are aimed at the European Court of Justice (EU), which earlier found that asylum candidates could not undergo a faster procedure that could lead to repatriation if their countries are not considered completely safe.
The EU must review Italy's plan in the coming weeks to clarify whether it is in accordance with the EU law.
The agreement between Rome and Tirana allows up to 3000 people, intercepted by the Italian coast guards in international waters every month, to be protected in Albania and checked for possible asylum in Italy or repatriation.
Italy agreed to meet those migrants to whom asylum is provided, while those whose applications have been rejected by deportation of a person directly from Albania.
The deal was struck as many EU countries seek to accept Resurial immigration positions Against the background of pressure from the far right.
The rights groups have asked whether the transaction is in line with international law. Amnesty International has called the centers “A fierce experiment (this) is a stain of the Italian government.”
So far this year, 3 704 migrants have arrived in Italy, more than twice the number in the same period last year, when it arrived 1 305. Last year, 66 317 migrants arrived in Italy, a decrease of 58 percent compared to the previous year.
