The power of literature in times of war: Fatima Bhuto and Ahmed Masood | Television shows


Gaza-born author and playwright Ahmed Masood is best known for his debut novel, Wanished, which has gained recognition for its combination of the depiction of life in Israeli occupation. He wrote a detective story placed in a gas called “Come” and Black Comedy, the manufacturer of the covenant, told through the eyes of an 80-year-old seamstress whose business, who makes funeral towels in gas, always flourished.

During the siege of Israel, Gaza, the family and siblings of Ahmed Masud were trapped in the Jabalia refugee camp. On January 22, 2023, Ahmed's brother was killed by Israeli forces.

In the fourth episode of RefrigerateFatima Bhuto interviews Masud about the power of literature to preserve his living memories of the home and how writing poetry has helped him deal with his brother's death, as well as with the continued destruction of gas.
