On Sunday night, at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan, two-time Olympic gold medalist 'T-Rex' Shields in the main event defeated Daniel Perkins, now with 5-1, with a collapse of the tenth round after nine dumb circles. The victory gave Shields IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC and WBF World Heavyweight Titles.
They both weighed under 175 pounds, and maybe in the women's boxing, it's heavyweight, although boxing men, it's a light heavyweight category.
Shields came across a great critic for protecting his title against someone with only five matches. Sometimes she seemed hesitant from the large size of her opponent to engage her in battle to short circles.
As a writer, I covered the Shields duel in April 2019 against Kazakhstan Christina Hammer, then 24-0, outside Germany, who was the WBC and WBO champion with a middleweight category. Every time Hamer continued with the attack, the American referee Sparkle Lee would intervene by stopping his attack. Although the results were 99-91 twice and 98-92, it was that my hammer was treated unfairly.
In the hammer's dressing room, I wanted to tell her how she was lied to, but promoter Tom Loffler stood there, telling me not to mention it. After he left the room, I told her how she was still a champion in my opinion. A woman sitting there, with whom I have no idea who she was, called for the loss.
Hummer took the loss very hard, fighting only four times wins. In her second game, she won the WiBF Super vacant title with a medium category in Germany, as well as all other matches. After her last victory in May 2022, she retired with a record with a knockout 28-1 and 13.
Since then, Shields won seven games, with his previous match over an opponent with a record of 7-1.
Looking back at some other women's boxers, several come to mind, such as IBO and Wibf Super Lightweight Champion Lucia 'The House Destroyer' Rijker, 17-0 with 14 stops in the Netherlands. The other is the IBA and Wiba Light Champion in the heavyweight Ann 'Brown Sugar' Wolfe, 24-1 with 16 stops from Waco, Texas, a stubborn woman.
Others are well-known are the daughter of the former world heavyweight champion Mohammed “The Biggest” Ali, WBC and Wiba Super with the Middle Category Laila, she was a bee sting Ali, 24-0 with 21 stops that retired when she became pregnant.
One of her opponents was the daughter of former heavyweight champion “Smokin” Joe Fraser, Sister Smoke Jacqui Frazier Lyde, 13-1 with nine stops, GBU Super Middleweight and Uba Heastight Fight. Another was the WBC heavyweight champion Christie Coalminer's daughter Martin, 49-7-3 with 32 stops, pioneer for women's boxing.
Two-time Olympian, 2012 Gold Medalist WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Super Lightweight Katie Taylor champion, 24-1 with 6 stops, from Ireland.
Wibf Super Flyweight Champion Germany's Regina Halmich, 54-1-1 with 16 stops, had a very weak opposition with 40 defensive titles.
