Bands in Haiti recruit children And to direct them to violence and sexual assault, said Amnesty International in a report describing in detail the effects of long -standing civic unrest that devastates the Caribbean nation.

A report published on Wednesday estimates that more than one million children live in areas controlled by or under the influence of armed gangs in Haiti, and convicted crimes committed against young people as “human rights violations”.

Haiti has no president or parliament and is managed by transitional bodyHe who struggles to manage extremely violence related to criminal gangs, poverty and other challenges. More than 5,600 people were killed in Haiti last year as a result of violence with bands, about a thousand more than in 2023, according to the United Nations organization.

The Amnesty report sounds fears expressed by the UN Children's Fund, UNICEF, in November. The group then announced that recruitment of children in the country has increased by 70 percentAnd that between 30 to 50 percent of the Haiti band members are children.

The new report emphasizes 14 Haitian children hired by bands to spy rival groups and police, as well as to work, such as delivering or repairing vehicles.

One of the interviewees said he was constantly pressed by a band to fight with her.

“They killed people in front of me and asked me to burn their bodies. But I don't have the heart for it, “the unidentified boy quoted.

If children refuse to follow the commands of a band, they or their families will be killed, according to a report that relies on interviews and research conducted from May to October 2024.

The Haitian girls are frequent victims of abductions, rapes and other sexual assaults during banking, Amnesty said.

At the age of 14, a girl told how a ricochet bullet pierced her lip in September 2024. Three months earlier, her 17-year-old brother was dying of a homeless bullet.

“I lost a huge presence in my life. Since then, I don't know how to be happy, “the girl said.

Amnesty also identifies attacks on schools and hospitals, as well as the blocking of humanitarian aid as examples of “serious violations” suffered by children.
