Authorities in Kuwait have detained members of an international cybercrime gang of Chinese nationality, the Ministry of the Interior said, following large -scale attacks on telecommunications towers and financial institutions across the country.
The cybercrime department was signaled after several telecommunications companies and banks reported cyberattacks on their networks to steal customer information and resources, the ministry announced Thursday in an X.
Employees detained a driver, a Chinese citizen, in the Kuwait Favary area and seized numerous electronic devices they owned. Later, police found higher-tech instruments at their residence.
The suspect admitted that he was part of a larger network of fraudsters who were also identified and arrested. Police also accused them of using counterfeit documents to create their identity.
The ministry said it was committed to dealing with cybercrime and protecting the country's institutions from attacks, stressing that it was taking action to improve security in its data protection networks and financial assets of citizens.
In September, the Kuwait Health Ministry was affected by a cyberattack, which took systems in several hospitals in the country offline. Cyberattack also influenced the Ministry of Health and Health Applications Website.
