Russian shadow on Africa Vladimir Putin

Russia's presence in Africa – stabilizing a force or template for the expanding influence on the continent?

Stabilizing force that enhances the sovereignty of African nations – or the focal point to increase Russian influence on the whole continent?

This documentary is a study of the strategic ambitions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Africa, observed through the prism of the Central African Republic (CAR). At the second summit of Russia-Africa in St. Petersburg in July 2023, Putin announced military agreements with more than 40 African countries. The agreements have already begun to change geopolitical relations and are significant to the local population. The Russian paramilitary organization The Wagner Group has been in the car since 2018, and although some support its presence, independent investigations report terrible violations of human rights with little or no accountability.

This film includes insights by former Wagner Commander Marat Gabidulin, French political analyst Emmanuel Dupi and adviser to the President of the car Faustin-Archanga Tuader. They shed light on the complex situation in the car – a combination of military engagement, operation of resources and geopolitical maneuvering – and how it becomes a template for the expanding influence of Russia in Africa.
