The President of Ukraine meets with leaders at the Munich Security Conference against the background of impetus to end the war in Russia-Ukrena.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski called on the US and Europe to unite to support Ukraine in their war against Russia.
Spotting on Friday at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenski also said the United States, including the administration of former President Joe Biden, had never seen Ukraine as a NATO member.
Ukraine will need “security guarantees” before some conversations with Russia, he said, as US President Donald Trump is pressing both sides to find a quick end to the three -year war.
Shortly before sitting with US Vice President JD Vance, Zelensky said he would only agree to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin personally after a general plan negotiated with US President Donald Trump.
Approximately the 40-minute meeting between Vance and Zelenski did not lead to major reports that detailed the outcome of the most deadly war in Europe after World War II.
“We want peace of mind a lot,” Zelenski said. “But we need real security guarantees.”
Vance, for his part, said the Trump administration is committed to finding a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Earlier this week, Trump stopped years of unwavering US support for Ukraine with a phone call with Putin, after which Trump said the two leaders would probably meet soon to negotiate a peace deal.
In Munich on Friday, some world leaders – including Conservative Party leader Friedrich Mertz, who is regarded as the probable next -Chancellor of Germany – is aside with the Trump administration.
“There was also an agreement that the path to lasting peace could only succeed in the closest coordination between America and Europe,” said Mertz on the side line of the conference.
But there were broader worries among other leaders at the summit.
“There are fears that there may be a deal that Washington wants to make with Putin effectively exclude not only Europeans but also Ukrainians,” said Al Jazeera Diplomatic Editor James Boyce of Munich.
But there was a strict warning from Julia Navalna, the widow of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian criminal colony: “Even if you decided to negotiate with Putin, just remember that he will lie.”
German Foreign Minister Analen Baerbok also expressed concerns about the Trump Administration's proposal to restore Russia in the group of seven (G7) leading economies.
“As G7 partners, we have repeatedly clarified in the last three years after this brutal Russian complete invasion: there can be no normal cooperation with Russia,” Baerbok said.
Only hours before Vance and Zelenski meet, Rone armed With a battle head struck the protective sheath of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant in the Kiev area, a place of the world's largest nuclear incident in 1986.
Zelenski and the UN Nuclear Agency has confirmed that radiation levels remain unchanged.
Later, Zelenski told reporters in Munich that the attack was “a very clear greeting from Putin and the Russian Federation to the Security Conference”.
