Spanish Carlo Alkaraz defeats Marin Chilick in Croatia to move to the last 16 of the Open Qatar.

The most replaced Carlos Alcaraz has overcome Croatian veteran Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4 to reach the 16 round of Qatar open.

36-year-old Chilik, the 2014 open-opened champion, who fell to number 192 in the ranking, played his first match of the season after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

The Croatians led 4-3 and 0-40 Alcaz's service in the second set on Friday, but the Spanish four-time main winner managed to recover and then broke in the next game.

“I am just very happy that at that moment I was calm – breathing, going through my combinations, making good points,” said Alkara. “That's why I was able to win in two sets.”

Alkaraz will play either China Gian Jazene or in Italy Luka Nardi afterwards.
