Earlier, the unprecedented Pow Oscar Jenkins shots show him that he looks enchanted, weak and complains of a broken arm.
The Australian government has said there are “serious concerns” about an Australian citizen captured by Russian forces while fighting for Ukraine after new shots of him appear to look enchanted and complain about a broken hand.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told public operator ABC on Tuesday that he saw the video posted on YouTube by Oscar Jenkins.
Albanese said that while the footage “seems to be confirming” Jenkins is alive, the government has “serious concerns about the well -being of G -N Denkins.”
“We have made it clear to Russia that Jenkins is a prisoner of war and that there are obligations that begin in accordance with international humanitarian law and they must be respected,” he said.
“We have called on Russia to release G -n Jenkins so that he can return to his family,” added Albanese.
Jenkins, a 32-year-old Melbourne teacher, was captured by Russian forces when he fights with the Ukrainian military. It is not clear when he left Australia for Ukraine.
At the footage uploaded on February 8, Jenkins is dressed in camouflage clothing with a green woolen hat. He looks uncomfortable, like a man behind the camera speaking in English, says the date is January 17, 2025.
The unidentified man explains that the worse reports of Jenkins' death were “not right” before Jenkins tells the camera that he would “want more freedom” and that he feels “a little weak”.
“I lost a lot. I still have a broken hand, I think, and my hand is not good, “he said.
The date and authenticity of the personnel cannot be checked independently.
In December, video footage first appeared on Jenkins on Pro-Cramp that they were questioned and slapped in a person by a person who speaks Russian. The man, claiming to be Jenkins, replied in English and Ukrainian, saying that he was a biology teacher who lives in Australia and Ukraine.
Australian media, citing unnamed sources, then announced in January that the Russian forces had had Killed JenkinsS
In response to these reports last month, Albanese said it would be “absolutely reproach” if it was confirmed that the Russian forces had done so and promised to take “the strongest possible action”.
Moscow then confirmed that Jenkins was still alive and held as a prisoner of war, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced at the end of January. The Russian government did not provide details of where Jenkins was detained or the conditions of his prison.
Relationships between Canberra and Moscow have been tense since the Russian rocket removed Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 Over Eastern Ukraine in 2014, which led to the death of 298 people on board, including 38 Australians.
Australia also condemned Russia in February 2022. A full -scale invasion of Ukraine as “illegal and immoral”.
In the years thereafter, Canberra contributed more than $ 1.5 billion (about $ 950 million) to “Important Defense, Economic, Energy and Humanitarian Aid” in Ukraine to support the country's “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
