Doha, Qatar – Haya al-Barai is preparing for another quiet Ramadan in Qatar. She will celebrate the Muslim world with her grandmother away from home.
Israel's war against Gaza tore his family.
The 16-year-old arrived in the capital of Qatar in December 2023 after her parents were killed in Israeli air attacks. Al-Barai was injured in the attacks and is now a paraplegion.
One of her sisters, who was also injured, is in the Turk. Her other two sisters and brother remain in gas.
“I don't want to celebrate Ramadan here. I used to enjoy Ramadan with my family. We would eat and play games together. My family was together at the time, ”Haya said.
The Israeli Gaza War of October 2023 has left over 38,000 Palestinians of the Opiroteli.
About 1400 Palestinians were evacuated to Doha, with nearly 500 of them injured.
Most of them are now residing in a compound in the Tumama, in the southern suburbs of the capital of Qatar.
For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection, as well as a time to share with loved ones.
For many Palestinian evacuates to Doha, this Ramadan marks another year of separation from their family in Gaza.
12-year-old Hamsa Al-Crakp lost his left eye and broke his right hand in Israeli air attack. She remembers the happiness of playing games with her cousins during Ramadan in Gaza.
Her father Maher said the family had not celebrated Ramadan since the beginning of the Gaza war.
“Last year, until the murder continued, we did nothing about Ramadan. All day I watched TV and worried about my family still in Gaza. I check them every day just to make sure they are alive, “Maher said. “This year, Ramadan makes no difference to me, as my wife and my three children remain in gas.”
