Lamont Roach's lawyer sent a letter to the New York Athletic Committee, asking them to change the results of Lamont's struggle against the “Tank” of St. Davis Davis last Saturday night to turn him into the new WBA champion into a lightweight category.
The battle was noted a 12-round majority draw: 115-113 for tank, 114-114 and 114-114.
According to Dan Rafael, Roach's lawyer wants the New York committee to “declare” him for the winner over a ninth round tank disqualified or by decision. Davis took a knee in the ninth round after being struck.
He then got up and went to his corner to get his face out of his coach. He claims to have hair fat in the eyes. Referee Steve Willis did not consider this a knockdown, insert it as a knockout or disqualify it. He could do one of the three because the tank had set off his corner without a time -up.
You just knew that this was coming from Roach's side, as a knockout call in the ninth round against the tank cost him not only the match, but probably the millions he would receive as the new WBA champion in a lightweight category. He will hold the WBA title, which will play in his favor in negotiations with a rematch with a tank or fight against one of the other belt holders, such as WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.
