Devin Hani says he was just as surprised as everyone else in the call for a knockdown in the ninth round of the Davis Tank Battle of Davis against Lamont Roach last Saturday night in downtown Barockin, New York.
Hani said he had never seen anything like before when the WBA Lightweight Tank Davis champion (30-0-1, 28 kos) took a knee in the ninth. Referee Steve Willis chose not to mark it as a knockdown. He even let the tank return to his corner to get his eyes out.
No Lockdown allowed Tank to escape with a 12-round majority equality. So, he remained a WBA champion, and Roach remained nothing to show about his performance.
“I always knew that Lamont was not coming to lie down. I have known Lamont from children. And so, we appeared together through the amateurs, “Devin Hani told Devin Hani Ring magazineReflecting on the battle of Gervonta Davis against Lamont Roach last Saturday night.
“I knew Lamont was serious and I went there to fight, but I thought he did a lot better than I thought he did it. I thought he won the match. Non -iconic, which was not unheard of. This is the first time I've seen with my own two eyes, “Hani told Davis, who takes her knee in the ninth and the referee does not call him a knockdown.
Many people believe that if Lamont Roach had taken a knee and then returned to his corner, the referee would count it as a collapse and then remove from the battle. He is not a superstar like Tank Davis, so he will not be provided with special treatment that the stars receive.
The referee began to give eight, but then stopped for some reason. That was weird. Roach believes it should have been a knockout that would give him the victory. Since then, he has appealed to the New York Athletic Committee, hoping that they will change the result to give him victory. Surprisingly, they take a long time to decide.
