The ambassador to the United Kingdom recalled after comparing Trump's candidacy to end the war in Ukraine with the appearance of Nazi Germany.
New Zealand fired his ambassador to the United Kingdom after the diploma publicly questioned the Under -State President Donald Trump's understanding of the events that accelerated World War II.
The New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Thursday that the UK Supreme Commissioner was “bankrupt” after his remarks during a panel discussion in London.
“They do not represent the views of the NZ government and make his position as the Supreme Commissioner in London,” a spokesman said.
The New Zealand Foreign Ministry said he was in discussion with a waffle about his return home and had no more comments.
Taking an event at Chatham House with the participation of Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Wednesday, Goff compared Trump's efforts to end the war in Ukraine with the 1938 Munich agreement, which allowed the Nazi Germany to annex parts of Czechoslovakia.
“I re -read Churchill's speech in the House of Municipalities in 1938. After the Munich Agreement, he turned to Chamberlain, he said:“ You had a choice between war and dishonesty. You have chosen Dishonor, but you will still have a war, “Goff said during the Q&A session, citing former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Winston Churchill and Neville Chamberlain.
“President Trump restored Churchill's bust in the oval office. But do you think he really understands the story? “
By refusing to answer Goff's question directly, Valtonne said Churchill made many “harmless remarks”.
In a publication by X, former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark criticized the justification for the GOF's expulsion as a “very subtle apology”.
Clark, who led New Zealand from 1999 to 2008, said she heard many people attract such parallels when she attended the Munich Security Conference last month in Germany.
GOF did not immediately respond to a request for comment via its X account.
Prior to appointing a top diplomat in the UK in 2023, GOF served in several ministerial portfolios, including foreign affairs, and made two terms as mayor of Auckland.
