Seven medical professionals have been accused of providing “reckless” and “insufficient” treatment of Maradona, who died in November 2020.
Four years after the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, seven healthcare professionals will go to court, accused of negligence in their recent days.
More than 100 witnesses, including Maradona family members and doctors who have been prone to him over the years, will take the position in the course of the four -month -old process, which begins on Tuesday in the suburb of Buenos Aires of San Isidro.
The seven defendants risk between eight and 25 years in prison if sentenced.
Diego Armando Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60, while recovering from brain surgery for a blood clot, after decades of battle with cocaine and alcohol addiction.
He was found dead in bed in a hired house in an exclusive Buenos Aires neighborhood, where he was brought after being discharged from hospital two weeks after surgery.
He was found to have died of a heart attack.
The night nurse said he had seen some “warning signs”, but “he received orders not to wake him.”
The death of Maradona, which came in the middle of the pandemic of Covid-19, was immersed in Argentina in a deep mourning.
Tens of thousands of people queued up to say goodbye to him while his body lay in the presidential palace.

Neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luke, psychiatrist Agustina Kosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, nursing coordinator Mariano Peroni, doctor Pedro Pablo Di and Ricardo Almiro will last next week.
Another nurse Gisela Dahiana Madrid asked to be tried by jurors separately.
Her process is set for July.
Prosecutors have accused medical experts of providing “reckless” and “insufficient” treatment of Maradona's home, claiming to have been abandoned in his fate for a “long, agonizing period” before his death.
A panel of 20 medical experts, convened by the Argentina prosecutor, concluded in 2021 that Maradon “would have a greater chance of survival” with adequate treatment at a suitable medical facility.
The investigative magistrate in the case said that each of the accused played a role in the events.
The defendants deny any responsibility for the star's death.
Vadim Michanchuk, a psychiatrist lawyer Kosachov, said he was very optimistic for a justification, given that his client was responsible for the mental rather than the physical health of Maradona.

Maradona's family claims that leaking audio and text messages show that the star's health was in an immediate danger, said Mario Bodry, a lawyer of Maradona Dieguito's son.
He said the messages show that the medical team's strategy is to try to ensure that Maradona's daughters do not interfere “because if they do, they (medical staff) will lose their money.”
Maradona is immortalized in countless murals, statues and exhibitions in Argentina, as well as in tattoos worn by his legions by fans.
It will also soon have a mausoleum on a site of 1000 square meters (11 square feet) in the heart of Buenos Aires.
“We want our father to be close to people's love,” said his daughter Dalma Maradona in a video presentation on the site, which is expected to receive up to a million visitors a year and will be free of charge for Argentines.
