In a statement on Monday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said it would allocate the equivalent of over $ 2.6 billion to purchases.
HLIB Kanevsky, Director of the Ministry Public Procurement Department, said Ukraine purchased more than 1.5 million drones in 2024, 96 percent of which were purchased from Ukrainian manufacturers and suppliers.
“This year, the numbers will be even higher, as the capabilities of the domestic defense industry in 2025 are approximately 4.5 million FPV drones,” Kanevski said, adding that the ministry “plans to buy them all.”
Small and inexpensive, FPV drones are controlled by pilots on the ground and often collapsed into whole while loaded with explosives. In April NATO employee said FPV drones that cost less than $ 1,000 have destroyed two-thirds of Russian tanks worth millions.
Ukraine became the largest weapon importer in the world from 2020 to 2024, the period when Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukraine's imports increased nearly 100 times in the previous four-year period.

Kanevsky also stated that all public procurement plans for this year have received money in the budget, which will ensure that the front line is delivered with the BLA as soon as possible.
Both Russia and Ukraine relied on cheaper and more effective alternatives to conventional artillery during the three-year conflict.
In a separate statement on Monday, the best general of Kiev, Alexander Syirsky, said that Ukrainian drones destroyed 22 percent more goals last month than in January, but added that the Russian forces were also adapting.
“We just have no right to lag behind the enemy in those areas of the technological war where we need to arm ourselves and strengthen ourselves from our own resources,” Syirski said.
