A sailor is supposed to be dead after a crash, an unidentified man detained on suspicion of a “murder.”
The United Kingdom police arrested a man, “on suspicion of gross negligence, following a collision in the North Sea between a cargo ship and a tanker.
Humberside police said on Tuesday that the 59-year-old had been detained in connection with the previous day collapse Between the Portuguese cargo ship Solong and the American flag, a flawless oil tanker that caused an explosion and put on the vessels.
A man not indicated by the police is not charged.
Junior Transport Minister Mike Kane said in parliament that a Solong crew member was supposed to be dead and that he was “unlikely” that the floating cargo ship would remain on sailing.
The other 36 crew members of the two ships were safely facing the shore at the Grimsby port, about 150 miles (240 kilometers) north of London, without major injuries.
The ship authorities and operators still do not offer an explanation of how the crash happened or why multiple safety systems aboard modern ships have failed to prevent the crash.
Detective Chief Chief Craig Nicholson said in a statement that Humberside police played a major role in “investigating any potential criminal offenses arising from the collision.”
“There has already been extensive work and we are working closely with our partners to find out what happened and to provide support to all those affected,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, a spokesman for British Prime Minister Cire Starmer said there seemed to be no proposal for a “fake game”.
Greenpeace UK expressed “serious concerns” on Tuesday about environmental damage from a collision that happened “near environmentally sensitive areas”.
The blameless Stina worked as part of the US Government's Security Program, a group of merchant ships that can be concluded to carry fuel for the military when needed.
Its operator, based in the US, Crowley, said it carries 220,000 barrels of Jet-A1 in 16 tanks, at least one of which is torn.
It is afraid that the load of jet fuel can pollute the sea by damaging large colonies of protected seabirds in the area, including fluff and gapes and the fish they feed on.
There were fears that Solong was carrying sodium cyanide, but the shipping company Ernst RoS, which manages the ship, said this was not the case.
Four empty containers on board, which “previously contain the dangerous chemical”, will “continue to monitor,” he added.
The UK Coast Guard Agency said on Tuesday that Solong was “still lit” while the fire aboard Stina is “significantly reduced”.
It says that Solong moves south, away from the tanker, and around the two ships is half a mile (about one kilometer) of an exceptional area.
