The United States agreed to resume military assistance and sharing intelligence with Ukraine after Kiev expressed a “willingness” to accept a 30-day cessation of fire in its conflict with Russia.
The two countries issued a joint statement after employees met on Tuesday at Saudi ArabiaSaying that Ukraine was open to the US proposal “to introduce an immediately, intermediate 30-day termination of fire, which can be expanded by mutual consent of the sides.”
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy Telegram said the proposal to terminate the fire would “establish a complete cessation of fire for 30 days, not only in terms of missiles, drones and bombs, not only in the Black Sea, but also throughout the front line.”
US President Donald Trump said he hoped Russia would agree to the fire termination plan, signaling that the United States would hold a meeting with Russia later on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Following the progress reached in the conversations, the United States said it would “immediately raise the reconnaissance and resumption of security assistance to Kiev, which it stopped last week, effectively transferring Ukraine's ability to track the movements of Russian troops, shield against missile strikes and to commit attacks.
The suspension came after a explosion Last month between Trump and Zelenski, who had traveled to Washington to discuss rare mineral deals on Earth, which will see the United States will gain access to lucrative resources in Ukraine.
The joint statement points out that the transaction is back on the table, with the two parties “locked as soon as possible an overall agreement on the development of Ukraine's critical mineral resources to expand Ukraine's economy and guarantee the long-term prosperity and security of Ukraine.”
Considering Washington, Colombia County, Alan Fisher of Al Jazeera noted that the joint statement did not include any mention of the explicit security guarantees that Zelenski had sought during his disputed meeting with Trump in the oval office.
“But these (security guarantees) seem to be missing right now. Maybe this is something that can be discussed, although we know that Donald Trump is really against this idea of explicit security guarantees for Ukraine, “he said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the ball is already in the court of Russia.
“We'll tell them it's on the table. Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking. And now it will depend on them to say yes or no, he said. “If they say no, then unfortunately we will know what the obstacle is here.”
US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz added: “The Ukrainian delegation today did something very clear: that they share President Trump's vision for peace.”
Walles said the negotiators “have entered into significant details of how this war will end permanently”, including long -term security guarantees.
Zelenski told Telegram that Ukraine is “ready for peace” and that she has now fallen into the United States to “convince” Russia.
“Ukraine is ready for peace. Russia must show its willingness to end the war or continue the war. It's time for the complete truth, “he said.
Russia launched a full -scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago and now holds around the fifth of Ukraine's territory, including Crimea, which annexes in 2014.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was open to discuss a peace deal. But he excluded the territorial discounts, stating that Ukraine should withdraw entirely from four Ukrainian regions, claimed and partially controlled by Russia.
Conversations in Saudi Arabia began just hours after Ukraine began its biggest drone attack against Moscow and the surrounding region, claiming that it had hit a pendinery for oil near the Russian capital and a facility in the Oriol region in Russia.
The attack, in which 337 drones were removed over Russia, they killed at least three employees in a meat warehouse and caused a brief exclusion of the four airports in Moscow, Russian employees said.
