The Duterte will be brought before a Judge of the ICC in The Hague in the coming days for the initial appearance, the court says.

Former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in the Netherlands and has been handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of crimes against humanity over his deadly “war against drugs.”

Duterte was arrested on Tuesday in the Philippine capital, Manila after returning from a trip to Hong Kong and being put on a plane to Rotterdam by police.

In a statement on Wednesday, ICC said Duterte79, “arrested by the authorities of the Republic of the Philippines in accordance with an arrest warrant issued by the pre -trial Chamber I on charges of murder as a crime against humanity.”

He will face a Judge of the ICC in The Hague in the coming days for initial appearance, the statement said. He was transferred to a Dutch coast.

In the ICC's order, he told him that, as president, Duterte created, financed and armed death troops that participated in the murders of alleged users and drug dealers.

He could have become the first former head of state of the Asian state to test in The Hague.

Rival protest

Outside the ICC building in The Hague, protesters against Duterte welcomed his arrest and held banners, who read: “We demand justice and accountability, Rodrigo Duterte is a military criminal!”

Menandro Abanes told Reuters news agency that Dutter's arrest is “great news for Philippine people.”

“I'm here to show my appreciation to () ICC for doing its job to end impunity,” Abanes added.

Another protester, Mary-Greys Labasan, also told Reuters that Dutter was lucky.

“He is experiencing a law of law compared to victims who were just shot and killed without any proper process,” she said.

Protesters pro-Water also gathered in the court building.

In 2021, ICC opened its investigation into the massacres associated with DrugHe who was observed by the Duterte while he was mayor of the city of Dao, and later as president.
