Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to stop attacks on the goals of energy infrastructure in Ukraine for 30 days after a telephone call with US President Donald Trump.
Putin ordered the Russian military to stop strikes against energy facilities, the Kremlin said in a statement after a long telephone call between the two leaders on Tuesday. But he stopped accepting Wider 30-day 30-day fire The proposal that Ukraine said was ready to implement.
The Russian leader expressed fears that such a truce could be used by Ukraine to mobilize more soldiers and resume during a pause in the two -year war on the countries.
Putin also told Trump that “the key condition for preventing the escalation of conflict and work due to its resolution through political and diplomatic means should be the complete termination of foreign military assistance and providing information on Kiev intelligence,” according to the Kremlin.
In a statementThe White House said the leaders agree that conversations about a potential marine truce, as well as a broader termination of fire, will start “immediately” in the Middle East.
Trump and Putin agreed to focus on peace, starting with “cessation of energy and infrastructure fire, as well as technical negotiations for the implementation of sea termination of fire in the Black Sea, complete cessation of fire and constant peace.”
Trump wrote on his social platform about the truth that talking to Putin is “very good and productive.”
It was not clear immediately whether Ukraine would agree to stop the attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
Attacks against energy goals are a constant characteristic of the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, with Moscow strikes on critical energy infrastructure regularly forcing the reduction of electricity across the country, affecting everything from the heating and the distribution of water to sewage and public health.
Thousands of people remain in the central Ukraine without electricity On Tuesday, after a Russian attack across the country, including more than 130 drones that damaged the critical infrastructure.
Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries, oil deposits and industrial sites have also been increasing since January. The attacks have knocked down to about 10 percent of the Russian refining capacity in some weeks of February, when the refineries were most difficult to be affected, according to an analysis by the Reuters news agency.
Taking into account from Washington, Colombia County, Alan Fisher of Al Jazeera said Kiev would probably be cautious that the proposal was limited to attacks against energy purposes.
“Ukrainians will be concerned that the Russians will use this period to try to make more profits from the earth, which is why they do not agree with the full ceasefire,” he said.
“This is a problem for (Kiev) and something they brought up with Americans in the past.”
Al Jazeera's Dorsa Jabbari, reporting from Moscow, said the call seems to show that there is a “some speed” of diplomacy.
“What the Russians are looking for is guarantee that Ukraine does not use this period to mobilize and embody.
“The Kremlin made it clear that this was a condition for any type of long -term peaceful peace,” she added.
European leaders have said they will continue to strengthen their support for KYIV.
“We both agree that Ukraine can count on us, that Ukraine can rely on Europe and that we will not let (Kiev) down,” said the outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as he spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron at a press conference in Berlin.
“We will continue to support the Ukrainian army in its war for resistance to Russian aggression,” Macron said.
Scholz said that a full fire should be negotiated as soon as possible.
“The next step should be a complete cessation of the fire for Ukraine and as quickly as possible.
