The former Formula Owesle's owner Eddie Jordan died at the age of 76 after fighting an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
“With deep sadness, we announce the passage of Eddie Jordan Obni, the former owner of the team of the Formula 1 team, TV Pundit and an entrepreneur,” his family says in a statement on Thursday.
“He died quietly with his family, in turn in Cape Town in the early hours of March 20, 2025 at the age of 76, after fighting with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in the last 12 months.”
The Irishman revealed in December that he was suffering from bladder cancer and prostate, which spread to his spine and pelvis.
The charismatic Jordan, who was a novice athlete, before turning his attention to the property of the team, achieved a rare success as an independent owner of the team in the brutally competitive world of Formula 1.
His team, Jordan Grand Prix – who made his debut in 1991, won four F1 competitions in 15 years in the sport and he remains a prominent figure through his work as a television scout.
The Motorsport managing body, FIA, described Jordan as the “Formula One” legend, telling X that he made a “invaluable contribution to the global motor sport throughout his life.”
F1 CEO Stefano Domicali, speaking before the Chinese Grand Prix of this weekend, said he was “deeply sad.”
“With his inexhaustible energy, he always knew how to make people smile, staying real and brilliant at any time,” he said.
British driver Damon Hill led the best score on Jordan-Final's home with one two of Belgius' Grand Prix in 1998.
Hill, who won the World Cup title with Williams in 1996, told the BBC that “he'll never be someone like Eddie Jordan.”
“He was frugal as you know. He was disrespectful, he was crazy. I lived in Ireland when I competed with Eddie and had the privilege of winning a Grand with Eddie and saw the effect – he influenced everyone.
“There is no person in this era and since then, who has not been positively influenced by Eddie,” he said.
Jordan won further competitions with Heinz-Harald Frazse in 1999, which briefly sparked for the F1 title.
The Irishman also submitted to Michael Schumacher his debut on the F1 of Belgius' Grand Prix in 1991, with the German winning a record seven World Cups during his career career, combined only by Lewis Hamilton in 2020.
Jordan sold his F1 team in 2005, with Aston Martin being the most native iteration of the outfit.
As a young man, born in Dublin Jordan, he was successful in the Irish Cart Championship and competes in different categories, including Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula 2, as well as to appear at 24 hours at Le Mans.
He created his own group, played drums, along with other interests such as golf, cycling and arts, and boasted a huge portfolio of business activities.
