Israel's cabinet approves the dismissal of Shin's sled against protests | Israel-Palestine News on Conflict

Ronen Bar will end its term on April 10 or immediately after its appointment replaced, the Prime Minister's office said.

Israel's cabinet approved the dismissal of the head of the Homeland Security Agency, supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial proposal to eliminate the intelligence chief for lack of confidence.

Shin Bet Ronen Bar's boss will end his term on April 10 or immediately after the appointment of his constant replacement, said a prime minister in a statement earlier on Friday.

A bar, which has led the Internal Security Service since 2021, refused to attend the cabinet meeting for its position.

In a letter distributed by Shin Beth, the Bar Association accused the government of being motivated by “wrong considerations” and “personal and institutional conflicts of interests of the highest order”.

This move comes after Netanyahu said on Sunday that he would bring a vote on Bar's dismissal in the office Due to his “continued distrust” by the security officer.

Netanyahu and BAR have been in logging heads for months against the background of a bribe investigation focused on the Prime Minister's cabinet and the accusations of failure to prevent Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.

Bar said in his letter that his expulsion was motivated by the desire to stop the “pursuit of the truth” for the events leading until October 7.

Shin Beth earlier this month released a report that admitted that he had to thwart Hamas, while criticizing Netanyahu for helping to create conditions for attacks.

Netanyahu's proposal to reject the security chief has sparked condemnation by opposition parties and renewed the Israelis protests opposed to his proper government.

On Thursday, police fired a water cannon and made at least 12 arrests after clashes with demonstrators in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
