Ukraine is calling for more sanctions and asset freezes against Russia as it repels increased attacks, with another harsh winter of war looming.
At least 10 people were killed and more parts of Ukraine plunged into darkness after another night of intense Russian attacks across the country, local officials said, as diplomatic momentum to end the nearly four-year war falters.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed the call for additional sanctions against Russia and freezing its assets in the European Union before the winter, saying that “the Russian strikes show that the pressure needs to be stronger.
“Russian nuclear energy is still not under sanctions, the Russian military-industrial complex is still receiving Western microelectronics, more pressure is also needed on oil and gas trade,” he said in a statement.
Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed in its latest battle report overnight that it had launched a “large-scale strike with high-precision, long-range weapons from air, land and sea platforms,” including hypersonic ballistic missiles.
It said Russian air defenses shot down two guided aerial bombs and 178 drones fired by Ukrainian forces. Another eight drones were reportedly shot down before noon on Saturday.
